Matte Painting

My first stab at a matte painting and I still have a ways to go before I am any good at it, but what fun!  I have tons of work to post from this past term and promise to post it as soon as possible.  First, I have to finish my finals. Thanks for stopping by.

A Few Images I Forgot To Post

I was going through some work from a couple of terms ago and found these.  The top two are from a character design assignment in an Adobe Illustrator class.  Photos courtesy of my instructor Dana Duncan Seil.  Since I like playing video games, I thought it would would be fun to create a fictional character around that and create something functional too.  Doesn't look to shabby next my my Xbox either.  Developing the character was tons of fun and it was my favorite project out of the class.  The last image is of some character designs from the same class, but different assignment.  They were a lot of fun as well.  I still have images from this previous term and some personal work I am working on.  I'll post more soon.  Till next time...

Layout Number Deux

This layout was the second assignment from my Style Development class and is in the style of William Joyce.  It took a while to paint, but it was a lot of fun.  This term is almost done and I can't wait to work on some projects over break.  Till next time...

Digital Landscape Paintings

Just a few of the plein air paintings I did this term.  I still have a lot to learn with this, but it's an exercise I plan on doing a lot for now on.

Well, the character is done

Still working away at the Charley Harper inspired piece for our style class.  It's coming along, but I'm still not ready to show it yet.  Not to mention I'm still painting on the last layout too.  I just really want it look good.  So here's the only part of the Harper piece I feel is done.  I'll post the final soon.  Till next time ladies and gents.

Almost Charley Harper

Our current project in my style class has us creating an illustration in the style of Charley Harper.  While his work looks simple in construction, you begin to realize just how much thought and design went into his work when trying to duplicate the style.  This assignment is proving to be really challenging, but I think it'll really pay off.  These character sketches aren’t quite Charley Harperesque yet; but they were really a lot of fun.  Till next time!

JPEG Has Arrived!

Well, actually i finished him the other day, but I'm just now getting around to posting him.  My brother and friends came up with the name.  He's a character for a new layout for the class with Mike Humphries, but I'll tell you more about the class when I can post the rest of the work.  Had a great time taking this from sketch to final render.  I've had loads of fun painting this term and I'm really enjoying the classes I have.  Looking forward to CTN this fall!  Till next time...Thanks for stopping by.

Quick Sketch From Last Term

Just posting a quick sketch from last term that I totally forgot about.  Working a lot on my assignments so not a lot of time to post anything really significant right now.  Soon though, soon.  Thanks for stopping by..

Descanso Gardens Plein Air Week 7

I can't believe I'm already half-way through this term.  I'm really enjoying this term and wish it would last for another ten weeks!  Working on a bunch of different assignments right now and I will post some new stuff later this week.  For now here is another plein air painting from this past week.

(Digital not yet) Landscape Painting

One of my classes this term is titled Digital Landscape.  For the most part it's a plein air class and then at the end of the term we go back and touch them up digitally.  It's a great class so far and I look forward to it each time we go out.  Now, I want to paint outdoors all the time!  These are really small paintings actually, but if i worked any larger I'd probably wouldn't finish in the time allotted.  What a fun and tremendously useful exercise!  Until next time, thanks for stopping in...

New Layout - Quick Post

Stopping in for a quick post.  Working on a layout for a class called Style Development.  I'm really happy with the outcome. Problem is, I like doing layouts too much and find myself working too long on this assignment.  So I have to set a timer when working on this class's homework.  IS that bad? Anywho, I'm still going to post some images from last term when I get a moment.  Thanks for taking a look.  Till next time!

Sketching and sketching...

This is just a snapshot of a few sketches I'm working on for a class called "Digital Illustration".  The teacher is amazing and I'm really enjoying it.  Which is crazy because I'm not that fond of the program we are learning in the course, Adobe Illustrator.  Which goes to show you that a great instructor can make the world or difference.  Illustrator is growing on me, slowly.  Anyway, back to work and thanks again for looking.

Couple of New Portraits

Here are just a couple of in-class paintings.  The second portrait (Old man in blue shirt) was done on palette paper!  The surface was tricky getting use to at first, but I like it.  The surface really allows you to push the paint around, reinforcing the sculptural idea behind the painting process.  The paper is a nice surface just practice on.  Thanks for looking!

5th Term is Underway!

I know, I haven't posted in some time.  My break was nice and relaxing and I just concentrated on, well, relaxing!  I did a few doodles, but nothing worth posting I'm afraid.  Well, there might a sketch or two and I might post those soon.  Anyway, this term is really interesting.  I have portraiture and digital illustration.  So here are a couple from portraiture that are worth looking at.  See you soon and thanks for looking!
